Dear Friends,

It is easy to become so caught up in the interpretation of events within a specific sphere of observation that we miss the greater implications of Purpose itself pouring through the planet, through our consciousness and so through our thoughts and actions. And while we judge external world events, national happenings and personal affairs, we forget that the transformation of these things can only be brought about by transformation in human consciousness.

Our consciousness is the lens through which enlightenment enters the world. If we are distracted by outer events we merely reflect them - and reinforce them in the process. We are using consciousness then merely as a mirror when its true function is as a powerful lens through which the world can become aflame with that "life more abundantly" of which the Christ spoke and which He will reveal when He comes.

Yet even the reappearance of the Christ, so long looked for and desired by all nations, and the externalisation of the spiritual Hierarchy are but effects of the great process unfolding through our planet. These great forerunners are both participants and agents in the working out of divine purpose. By correspondence, each human being within the scale and scope of his own consciousness also participates in the unfolding plan.

Purpose is that impelling force which drives us on in whatever direction we are capable of envisioning, apprehending and pursuing. A sense of purpose, of some kind, is shared by all human beings. The interpretation of its objectives working out is being shared by an increasing majority - though we are still learning tolerance of different methods, modes and approaches.

Human rights are being universally defined and accepted - although they are still being clarified as much by their abuse as by their right practice. Thus the long history of karma (of cause and effect), from individual to national and global scales, is providing the resulting field of experience through which realisation is anchored in the world.

Karma exists because we are part of an interconnected world, and are evolving from a partial view towards a wholistic view of it. Everything we do, think and feel has repercussions. Everything we do IS a repercussion - a minor disturbance in the fabric of the planet! Destiny, on the other hand, is the immutable objective that supersedes karmic reactions when our partial (or self-centred) view is superseded by a knowing and an identification with the totality within which we live and move and have our being.

Cycles are generated by cause and effect through time. They are the regular beat and flow that enlivens matter and gives it shape according to the rhythmic impact of purpose and life. All serve to bring enlightenment, to reveal the greater reality. As the Tibetan Master, Djwhal Khul, writes:
". . we are considering the point of experience where light pours in, bringing revelation, conveying information, evoking the intuition and drawing into the waiting consciousness of the initiate those spiritual laws, those rules of the creative process, those ray conditions and those new energies and forces for which the humanity of any particular period waits, and which are fundamentally needed if the race of men is to move forward into greater spiritual culture and out of the relative darkness in which it at present moves.

What we are dealing with here . . is the impending realisation for which any opening cycle attests its waiting, and for the new truths and the expanded spiritual presentations which it is the destiny of the initiate to bring to the people. You will note that I choose the word "destiny" in preference to the word "karma" because in this . . the initiate is working and practicing and progressing under a Law of Destiny. This law affects . . the (spiritual) Hierarchy as a whole, and . . is (not) under the Law of Karma, as usually understood. This Law of Destiny . . is the result of the pledged and united dedication to service which is the outstanding note of the united Ashrams. . It is therefore . . free from all evil, because it is selflessly motivated"

Time and space can weigh heavily on us when we seek a separate space, identity, recognition; yet the sense of separation is only an inability to recognise our interconnection with all that is. Separation only exists where we allow it in our consciousness - it does not exist in fact. Our consciousness is the tool for enlightenment depending on how we use it. The Tibetan identifies the new orientation emerging:
"All phases of human living - politics, finance and science, as well as religion - will be recognised to be their immediate and spectacular task, but the motivation will not be primarily business success or personality ambition but the impulse to subordinate these to the general effort and to aid humanity as a whole, with a long range vision. It is the growing spirit of humanitarianism which will lie behind all movements towards world socialisation in the various nations. This movement is symptomatic of a change in the orientation of man's thinking, and therein lies its major value. It is not indicative of a new technique of government in reality, and this particular phase of it is ephemeral; it is at the same time foundational to the new world order which will emerge out of all these experiments which human thinking is at this time evolving."

It has been said that it is what we are rather than what we do that makes a difference in the world. More importantly, though, it is what we think we are that has effect - until realisation dissolves the barriers to reality. Then truth manifests on Earth and our planet fulfills its sacred destiny while we fulfill ours as part of that great process. We are inseparable from the Life of our world and, born of the essential Will-to-good which animates the evolutionary plan unfolding, cannot escape the transformation that we bring about through human consciousness.
