Dear Friends,

Assessments and judgements are always relative to the breadth of focus of those making them. They are offered so authoritatively by analysts, specialists, consultants, advisors, media correspondents and leaders of religions, political parties and civic groups of various kinds. Increasingly we realise that they are not all saying the same thing, that they often conflict, and yet each presents with such cogent and forceful argument that we are not sure what to believe. And yet even the least sophisticated among us can take a step into the largest frame of reference and know that which eludes the most authoritative voice among us. Such is the inspiration behind these words quoted in the last newsletter: "But the least one of them turned to the shining stars and said, 'Hail to you, brothers!' And in this salutation of daring his ego vanished."

Rather than seeing the likeness of God in all things we can too often misinterpret our role as reflector of the divine and reflect instead our own small likeness onto all we see through that little lens. Then with our anthropomorphism we belittle that mighty power and presence that can command a planet or a solar system as its body of manifestation. We may observe and serve but never claim the full breadth of that divine vision. Yet in this great presence we do serve and sense the grandeur in which we participate if we "walk humbly with our God." We are told that this injunction is one of the most advanced in any of the world Scriptures and that it "signifies the ability to view all life with a sense of divine proportion." At the same time we can "consider it not robbery to be equal with God" because we are part of that One Life and are its representatives in microcosm.

So how do we develop and keep that sense of divine proportion? It is mighty and we can have access to its power but while ever we are less than the whole in the breadth and depth of our vision we cannot wield it truly. Only from that point at which we are one - the heart at the centre of all - can we access that expansive influence that is the saving force through which power may safely work, and through which the true place for all is embraced and preserved. This is the heart of Love. It is that which relates us back to the whole, through each other, so that the awesome power of Life may be safely directed in accordance with divine intention and the divine life in which we are all participant.

What is it that lives? Spirit lives. Matter lives. Only the forms created out of their divine union have temporary existence. They are but the transitory steps in the great dance of the spirit and matter aspects of life. They are creating time and space out of their relationship and ultimately a perfected system out of their eventual synthesis where the two manifest the One that they essentially are - as are we, being part of that same One. Perhaps it's no wonder then that our system receives its deepest and most all embracing inspiration from the binary star system of Sirius, that "brilliant Star of Sensitivity". How else but through the capacities of great sensitivity can the many be known and sensed by the One, and by any one within that whole?

We think we know something of Power. We think we know something of Love. And, indeed, we must, as we are part of their expression. But while ever we are able to think of them separately and not in union, we will misuse and abuse their capacity and the intention of their being. Only the synthesis of all the diverse aspects of life energy can fully express Life. Hence our attempts are important as learnings and experiments along the way of that great unfoldment. They are not in themselves perfect. Even the great system in which we live is, through past and future eons, only learning Love into existence. The will that is beginning to manifest - divine will, the Soul's intention and the self-will of the little lives - is but the will aspect of Love making its first impacts.
We identify it as the divine fire, the spark that enlivens all. At the reappearance of the Christ we are told that "It is the Fire of Love which He will bring; it is the message of the purificatory fire which He will sound; He will not teach anent the waters of purification, as has hitherto been the symbolic imparted truth; He will impart the fire which burns and destroys all barriers in man's nature, all separating walls between individuals, between groups and between nations."

We have seen the effects of this with the breaking down of separation between many nations and, the latest news to hand, in events in Israel and Palestine: ". . A remarkable form of resistance has emerged in Israel in the form of 50 combat officers and soldiers, who announced, in an open letter published on January 25th in the Israeli press, that they would no longer serve in the Occupied Territories. Less than two weeks after the letter's publication, another 150 soldiers signed up, among them many sergeants, lieutenants, captains, and even a few colonels . . . thousands of Israelis have called a telephone hotline to support the soldiers . . . A group of women are now organizing a petition, claiming that reservist men are not the only ones carrying the burdens of occupation, while a number of twelfth-graders, who will be drafted this coming summer, have also announced that they will not serve in the territories. . . the people who initiated it . . are not radical leftists, but . . are affiliated with Israel's political center. They . . have always served in the front lines, and . . were the first to carry out any mission, light or heavy, in order to protect the State of Israel and strengthen it. Moreover, they experienced firsthand the effects of the occupation, and no one can tell them that they do not know what is happening in the territories."

So in all the highways and byways of the long journey that brings us, the prodigal son, back to the Father's home, it is Love that we are learning into existence. As in the well-known words of St Paul: "Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not love, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not love, I am nothing. . Love never faileth. . For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away. When I was a child I spake as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face; now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love."

We are told "greater love hath no man than that he lay down his life for his friends". This has often been interpreted as a statement about the physical vehicle only, as that has been the point of identification in the past, but our life is only limited by what we can envision at any point in time. This is a statement of service and of the purpose which embraces all our living. It is an affirmation of the greater life - of the laying down of the little life for the greater, of the separated individual atom for the whole of which it sees itself a part. It concerns the essentialising of our point of living into the centre of the greater life and thus becoming a conscious avenue for its beneficent, loving power.

More and more of humanity are beginning to offer their livingness in terms meaningful to Aquarian service whereby our divine nature is emerging into the world, moving on from the Piscean era of service of the individualised aspiration reaching from a point of separation towards inner unity. We are just glimpsing the idea of living life from the perspective of that Great Life. What glory lies before those who give all, give everything they would claim for a little, separate self! For until all the trappings of a worldly identity are as nothing so will our capacity for service be limited thereby.
