Dear Friends, Human history is full of the misinterpretation of both natural and man-made effects, a misinterpretation laced with religious awe and followed until a broadening context reveals its fallacy. Nor is the unifying principle to be grasped in the emotional fervours and responses that sweep through personal reactions to one another and to the world. Emotions can also divide us from ourselves and fracture perception of the true whole as "through a glass darkly". The rational mind, too, is not sufficient to penetrate to the greatness and simplicity of the whole of life behind the many parts of its expression. Rationalisation by its nature is based on certain accepted premises which may or may not be true despite their general acceptance. What draws the coordinated expression of wholeness forth is a sense of service to a higher ideal than the survival of the individual form. The individual is then sacrificed, made sacred, through love of that which is greater than itself and yet which embraces and sustains each serving part within it - ennobling, refining and transfiguring it in the greater glory of the whole. Nothing is lost. The mind and heart of the whole knows even if "a sparrow falls". Whatever we know, feel and touch is known, felt and touched by the whole of Life, of which we are a conscious part, and this through our very engagement with life as its agents. There is ultimately no distinction between the whole and all its parts - as they are one and the same. The experience of such truths goes beyond the rational and analytical mind to the abstract principles that hold the complete context within which analysis and discrimination can be exercised to bring about right relationship with the whole and only then automatically between each part. It is the whole which orders, relates and inspires. The great simplicities of life only appear confusing when viewed through the minutiae of everyday living rather than the other way around. Over the past centuries we have seen great movements inspiring human beings to synthesise their living towards a meaningful and purposeful whole. The great international alliances, organizations, movements, religions and cultures have brought a sense of relationship and greater purpose bridging differences of geography, race, language and expression. At the same time we have seen an intensification of competition - even applying the same synthesizing techniques to amalgamate into larger wholes. Such amalgamations based purely on material values ultimately fail as they attempt still to divide off part of the whole fabric of life from its enlivening source. It is a false unification and yet it paves the way through experience to the true relationship behind the myriad forms. All the lesser experiences bring us ultimately to the feet of the greater Life that pours through all. We are told in the Bible that Christ will come in the air, and that He will bring the "healing of the nations" in His wings. He will be supported by that Silent Spirit Who will "keep His eye upon Him, His hand beneath, and His heart in unison with His." Then, as an old prophetic passage indicates, the . . .
To see all current happenings through those prophetic eyes opens up the way for its realisation and for the wonder of the coming time to emerge - through human consciousness and into living expression in the world. Thus the water of Life pours in and feeds a humanity thirsting ever more intensely for that "peace that passeth understanding" and which is so dynamic with life that, once the gates are opened to it, will sweep away all obstructions before it and resolve them into their rightful place in service to Life, not death. Let us usher in the new age of the reality of wholeness and the Peace which flows through it embracing and enlivening all. And let us do it by seeing that goal approaching, drawing closer and becoming clearer even through the turbulent events as the old understanding of separateness, competition and fear crashes into the new wave. Inspiration is pouring into human consciousness and the realisation is that "an eye for an eye" only means two eyes lost rather than one saved. Many mourners of the September 11 and Bali bombing tragedies refuse to seek vengeance as they realise it will not bring back loved ones and only extends the terror by creating more. The same learning is playing out in many situations around the globe at this time. Fear only generates more fear. It is based on the fallacy of separation, of a partial, exclusive view of life and leads only to destruction. The Tibetan Master, Djwahl Khul, tells us that:
With all these realisations the new dispensation of loving, divine will, inaugurated by Christ, is gradually finding expression in our world and paving the way to greater and greater divine expression through human agency. St Paul predicted this in the beautiful passage from I Corinthians, chapter13:
