Dear Friends,
The spontaneous response to need immediately following the Tsunami disaster is an echo from the future of the new consciousness, the new race. This new consciousness flows with the ocean of life across all man-made barriers based on location, race, culture, religion or political ideology and re-unites us as human beings within the coordinated life of a living planet. We no longer merely accept the concept of a shared world - we actively participate in the sharing.

And through sharing we realise that nothing is lost! We release the small desires and fears for our own separate welfare and survival by forgetting them in the urgency of need and we find that sharing what we have does not leave us with less but with all the material comfort we enjoyed before but now with the added joy and inspiration that flows from sharing the greater life with others. Our priority of values is transformed. We become at one with the "water of life poured forth for thirsty men". We are humbled by those who suffer to draw forth this realisation.

We might think we are amongst the "thirsty" yet contributing to the flow ensures the circulation of living energy that sustains us all. We can no longer intellectually deny the interdependence of life - within our planet, within the solar system and within the universe, the cosmos. And so we begin to live it out into expression. Being part of that greater life we do not need to wait for guidance from an external authority, but, from our point of immersion within it, we can move immediately to respond to need.

This brings a freedom of spirit. We do not move to the goad of a command but respond spontaneously to a recognised need - without premeditation, without assessing separate, personal risk - just as the blood in a body flows to the points of need to bring sustenance and healing to sustain the microcosmic form that houses the animating life. The Tibetan Master tells us of this freedom: "… the freedom which the sannyasin knows as he roams free in the three worlds - unsupervised and unintruded upon by aught but his own soul. It is the freedom which gives mental help, emotional response and physical time as and when the disciple chooses. These are not evoked by habit or by the demand of others, but are the free contribution of the soul to a current need."

As we experience this massive outpouring of "the free gift of a loving heart", we are aware more than ever of the remaining conflicts and frictions in the world being played out at every level - opposition breeding opposition, destruction creating destruction. The principles and dynamics are not to be seen in the surface differences. The very opposed groups can serve the same destructive forces albeit under different flags and names. Yet surely God is on the side of the world and the whole human family He created - and cannot be contained by the ideology of any one group or another. The greater forces of nature are not aligned with any one race, religion or philosophy but reach through all and may be evoked by our own misuse of energies. In the book, Supermundane II, we read:

"People produce strong poisons within themselves, and exhale them in their fits of hatred. The legend about poisonous breath has a true basis. The roar of crowds does shatter space, and the breath of malice pollutes the atmosphere for a long time. It is particularly timely to remind you about this during the days of Armageddon. People protect themselves from poisonous gases by wearing gas masks. But they should provide themselves with one more mask - the protective mask of pure thought - for only thought can shield one from the poisonous breath. People should admit that there is such poison, and remember that thought has the power to resist the most harmful vibrations. Only thought can produce the antidote. … We have spoken about resistance to evil. Precise, clear, and disciplined thought is a powerful aid, and also a powerful antidote. So-called immunity is the result of thought. If you remember Us you will intensify your thoughts and they will acquire a new power. Think about Us. Think about reality and face the terrors of Armageddon."

In the same sloca we also read:

"…people underestimate the influence of cosmic currents, and assume that a more refined organism is less susceptible to them. But the saying, 'The Burden of this World', was known in remote antiquity. Simply, it states that this burden is carried by the most refined and most elevated ones, who resound intensely to the currents of space. They suffer greatly who suffer distant earthquakes and the shock of cosmic currents that exceed the speed of light. The study of such currents has not yet been developed, and people stumble upon obscure evidence only by accident. But physicians should remember that cosmic currents influence many diseases."

The Tibetan also points to the greater context in which humanity and our world moves and which gives significance to the current world crises: "A shift in the Earth's polarity, due to the pull of a great cosmic centre. This powerfully affects the Earth's orientation and is responsible for the present earthquakes, and for volcanic eruptions and the many earthquakes during the past one hundred and fifty years." He points also to other great cycles in which our solar system and our planet are engaged and the pivotal moment through which we are progressing.

This progress can be hidden by our fixation on what we see immediately in the foreground of life and it can require an upheaval of that to reveal the greater reality working out from deep within the source of the life forces that direct our world. The Tibetan describes the process of clarification within the evolutionary stream:

"The creation (and, I should add, the over-creation) of the millions of material things which men everywhere regard as essential to their well-being is also the result of the creativity of the fifth ray consciousness. This is, of course, as it demonstrates on the physical plane. When it demonstrates upon the mental plane, we then talk of ideas, concepts, philosophies and ideologies. When it demonstrates upon the astral plane, we are aware of the religious impulse, of mysticism and of the emotional and conditioning desires. All these aspects are present in the consciousness of men everywhere today. Everything is crystallising in human consciousness, and this takes place in order to make men aware of where he stands upon the ladder of evolution, and of what is wrong and what is right. All this again is due to the fifth ray energy (of concrete science). This will begin to transform human living and human desires and also human affairs and attitudes, and will lead eventually (in the middle of the ..next.. race) to the great Transfiguration … in which the reality that lies behind all human phenomena will stand revealed."

Human consciousness is changing from one apparent extreme to another - from separateness to oneness. And yet the very pain of our experience of separation has revealed the underlying oneness, showing that even the illusion of separation is driven by purpose. All is ordered by divine will and all is within its power. We are told that:

"… it is only in the fourth kingdom, the human, that there exists the possibility of a conscious registering and recognition of divine intent and a faint vibrating response to the will aspect of divinity. It has taken a millennia of years to bring this about. … Our modern civilisation today (under the hammer of the destroyer aspect) is being changed; old things are passing away, having served their purpose. The new thing is not yet noted or appreciated, though already present. The work of preparation for the planting of the germ or seed of divine will on Earth is nearly over. … and from the Council Chamber (of the Lord of the World) will issue forth the sower of the seed; He will sow it within the ground prepared by humanity, and thus the future is assured … for the greater Whole in which our planet plays its little part. That moment lies ahead in the civilisation that will be, and in the next great race which will emerge out of all our modern races and nations, the sowing will take place. The next race will be a fusion of the whole, and a world-wide recognition of the One Humanity is an essential prerequisite of the sowing."

The new consciousness thinks not in terms of separation but of oneness; it is not self-conscious but whole-conscious, not reactive but responsive. The subtle and deep conditioning of even the way we think, our stream of consciousness, is changing. Just as we might cross barriers with our common humanity, so the new consciousness crosses dimensions and time with its common identity with the greater life across the worlds. Our new energy sources will be derived, not from separation but from uniting, from the fusion of what has always been intended to express the symmetry, synthesis and wholeness of the universe in which we participate.
