Dear Friends, And through sharing we realise that nothing is lost! We release the small desires and fears for our own separate welfare and survival by forgetting them in the urgency of need and we find that sharing what we have does not leave us with less but with all the material comfort we enjoyed before but now with the added joy and inspiration that flows from sharing the greater life with others. Our priority of values is transformed. We become at one with the "water of life poured forth for thirsty men". We are humbled by those who suffer to draw forth this realisation. We might think we are amongst the "thirsty" yet contributing to the flow ensures the circulation of living energy that sustains us all. We can no longer intellectually deny the interdependence of life - within our planet, within the solar system and within the universe, the cosmos. And so we begin to live it out into expression. Being part of that greater life we do not need to wait for guidance from an external authority, but, from our point of immersion within it, we can move immediately to respond to need. This brings a freedom of spirit. We do not move to the goad of a command but respond spontaneously to a recognised need - without premeditation, without assessing separate, personal risk - just as the blood in a body flows to the points of need to bring sustenance and healing to sustain the microcosmic form that houses the animating life. The Tibetan Master tells us of this freedom: " the freedom which the sannyasin knows as he roams free in the three worlds - unsupervised and unintruded upon by aught but his own soul. It is the freedom which gives mental help, emotional response and physical time as and when the disciple chooses. These are not evoked by habit or by the demand of others, but are the free contribution of the soul to a current need." As we experience this massive outpouring of "the free gift of a loving heart", we are aware more than ever of the remaining conflicts and frictions in the world being played out at every level - opposition breeding opposition, destruction creating destruction. The principles and dynamics are not to be seen in the surface differences. The very opposed groups can serve the same destructive forces albeit under different flags and names. Yet surely God is on the side of the world and the whole human family He created - and cannot be contained by the ideology of any one group or another. The greater forces of nature are not aligned with any one race, religion or philosophy but reach through all and may be evoked by our own misuse of energies. In the book, Supermundane II, we read:
In the same sloca we also read:
The Tibetan also points to the greater context in which humanity and our world moves and which gives significance to the current world crises: "A shift in the Earth's polarity, due to the pull of a great cosmic centre. This powerfully affects the Earth's orientation and is responsible for the present earthquakes, and for volcanic eruptions and the many earthquakes during the past one hundred and fifty years." He points also to other great cycles in which our solar system and our planet are engaged and the pivotal moment through which we are progressing. This progress can be hidden by our fixation on what we see immediately in the foreground of life and it can require an upheaval of that to reveal the greater reality working out from deep within the source of the life forces that direct our world. The Tibetan describes the process of clarification within the evolutionary stream:
Human consciousness is changing from one apparent extreme to another - from separateness to oneness. And yet the very pain of our experience of separation has revealed the underlying oneness, showing that even the illusion of separation is driven by purpose. All is ordered by divine will and all is within its power. We are told that:
The new consciousness thinks not in terms of separation but of oneness; it is not self-conscious but whole-conscious, not reactive but responsive. The subtle and deep conditioning of even the way we think, our stream of consciousness, is changing. Just as we might cross barriers with our common humanity, so the new consciousness crosses dimensions and time with its common identity with the greater life across the worlds. Our new energy sources will be derived, not from separation but from uniting, from the fusion of what has always been intended to express the symmetry, synthesis and wholeness of the universe in which we participate.
